1. Tollhouses Marker

Inscription. During most of the 19th century, all major roads in Kentucky were maintained by private companies. Travelers paid a fee at a tollhouse to use the company's road. This original tollhouse is typical of the 13 tollhouses which existed on the Maysville-Lexington Turnpike. Old Main Street, Washington was part of the Maysville-Lexington Turnpike.
