Inscription. Gwen B. Giles was born in Atlanta, GA and graduated from St. Louis and Washington Universities. She was the 1st Black woman elected as Missouri State Senator and 1st Black Assessor for the City of St. Louis. She served as the Civil Rights Agency Director and as the 1st Black Community Affairs Director at KMOX-TV.
