English translation:

It was here between 8 September 1943 and 25 April 1945 that they suffered torture and died - hundreds of freedom fighters - prisoners of the fascists.

The Piccolo Teatro has made this building a center and a symbol of the cultural renaissance and of the democratic life of Milan.

On the use of the building in the 1943-45 period (in translation): …in that period the basement of the building was used as the headquarters of the counter-espionage services of the fascist regime. Starting from 1943 instead (until 26 April 1945) the Muti Legion, commanded by Francesco Colombo, took office there.
