Excerpt (in translation): He participated in the new political experiences of Napoleonic Italy, first in the Cisalpine Republic and then in the Kingdom of Italy; at the fall of Napoleon he sided with the liberals promoting technological and social progress. He was among the animators and collaborators of the Conciliatore; when in 1821 Pellico and others were arrested for joining the Carbonari he too ended up among the accused but avoided prison and condemnation by taking refuge in exile, first in England, then in Greece and France. He returned to Milan only in 1840.

2. Luigi Porro Lambertenghi (Wikipedia, in Italian).
Excerpt (in translation): A friend of Silvio Pellico, he hosted him at home as secretary and as tutor to his children. Involved in the conspiracies that led to Pellico's arrest (October 13, 1820), in April 1821 he managed to escape arrest by fleeing to Piedmont, then to Canton Ticino, to Paris and finally to London, where news of his sentence reached him. Death in absentia was pronounced by the Austrian court on August 22, 1822 and performed in effigy…

Overview: Silvio Pellico, (born June 25, 1789, Saluzzo, Kingdom of Sardinia [now in Italy]—died Jan. 31, 1854, Turin), Italian patriot, dramatist, and author of Le mie prigioni (1832; My Prisons), memoirs of his sufferings as a political prisoner, which inspired widespread sympathy for the Italian nationalist movement, the Risorgimento.
