Tale of the Swamp Rabbit
Photographed By Devry Becker Jones (CC0), March 23, 2023
Swamp rabbits are at home in a wetland habitat. Swamp plants provide food, nesting material, and hiding places. Swamp rabbits are excellent swimmers, and often take to the water to escape their natural enemies.
Once common in Missouri when swamps were plentiful, these animals are now confined to the few swamps and bottomland forests that remain. More habitat protection and restoration is needed before swamp rabbits thrive again in Missouri.
