1. Peninsular Farms Marker
Inscription. Site of James Whittaker Home, Ohio's first White settler, 1781. This 480 acre farm is the last undeveloped section of the Whittaker Reserve. In 1781 James Whittaker and Elizabeth Foulks, prisoners of the Wyandots, married in captivity and the Wyandots gave them 1280 acres. This remaining 480 acres is protected for posterity by Black Swamp Conservancy. Thus, future generations will be able to enjoy this farm, the historically oldest property in the State of Ohio.
