Extensive renovations in 2012 transformed this once-enclosed garden into an expansive vista, favored in Henry Shaw's day. this garden has been carefully designed to enhance your view down the vista and to complement the architectural style of the Linnean House.

In early summer, the central pools are planted with tropical water lilies and other aquatic plants. The symmetrical plantings on either side of the Gladney Rose Garden entrance focus on some of the world's hotspots of biological diversity with climates that are similar to St. Louis.

The Garden's horticulturists carefully select biennials and perennials grown from seed which have been sourced through various collecting expeditions and reciprocal trade with foreign institutions. These plantings are part of the Garden's ongoing efforts toward maintaining living collections that showcase the Garden's research and conservation efforts and provide visitors the opportunity to experience greater plant diversity.
