Established in circa 1917, the Gladney Rose Garden features over 1,000 roses, including over 100 varieties of hybrid tea, grandiflora, and floribunda roses, in a formal wagon wheel layout.
As an All-American Rose Selections (AARS) Public Garden, the Missouri Botanical Garden knows the AARS winners a year before they are introduced. The Garden updates the display every year with roses that are hardier in St. Louis, as well as new and unusual varieties. Peak display lasts from early summer through autumn.
The central fountain was added to the garden in 1960. Flanking the fountain, two trellises are crowned in spring and summer with Dale Chihuly's sunny and aptly named sculpture, Trellises, 2006. Take a moment to relax, sit on a bench nearby, and enjoy the delicate sounds of water and the wonderful scent of the roses.
