The Garden holds two types of plant collections. In April 2014, the herbarium added its 6.5 millionth dried plant specimen. Dried specimens, pressed and mounted on sheets, are used as reference material in describing and classifying plants for documenting natural history. The living collection is comprised of thousands of plants, including specimens of conservation concern. These plants are grown to support programs in horticulture, education, research, and conservation.

Think about it! What type of plant collection do you have at home?
