Inscription. People have traditionally used herbs for household purposes. False indigo, tansy, and marigold were used to dye homespun fabric. To perfume homes and mask odors, everlasting flower was strewn on floors or burnt to spread its fragrances. Leaves and flowers of southernwood and globe amaranth freshened drawers and cupboards. Wormwood and thyme repelled insects, while lavender, lemon balm, and lemon verbena were added to cosmetics. Flax and yarrow had a multitude of uses.
