1. Sassafras Marker
Inscription. The grove of sassafras trees around Henry Shaw's house gave it the name Tower Grove House. They probably represent the only trees on the grounds that predate the Garden's founding. Sassafras has been used for tea and to flavor root beer, candies, medicines, and tobacco.
