Inscription. The Meuse-Argonne Campaign was a major part of the final allied offensive of World War I stretching along the entire western front. It was fought between the Meuse River and Argonne Forest in three phases, beginning on September 26, 1918, and ending on November 11, 1918 when an armistice took effect. This was the largest operation undertaken by the American expeditionary forces, involving some 1.2 million soldiers, including a number of local men.

In a ceremony on November 11, 1921, Tight Street, also known as Milford Road, was renamed Meuse Argonne and was dedicated to all veterans of World War I. This memorial is placed not only in their honor, but also in memory of those who gave their lives in this global conflict.
