Rochester Celebrates!
1992 In late November, the "Big Bright Light Show" made its debut for the holiday season. When all of the downtown buildings were completely blanketed in multi-colored lights, Main Street became a rainbow wonderland. This holiday spectacle became an annual event and continues to draw thousands of people to the city each year to enjoy and celebrate the season.
In late May 1977, Rochester held its first annual Heritage Festival in celebration of the community's history, traditions and culture. Continuing to this day, the festival has included such events as Civil War re-enactments, musical entertainment, a playground area featuring old-fashioned games and activities for children, antique car shows, and many craft and food vendors. Generations of Rochester area residents have enjoyed this historical celebration of our heritage.
In December 1952, Rochester's first "Hometown Christmas Parade" was held and has since continued annually, it has featured many floats, school bands, fire engines, and Santa Claus on his sleigh as a grand finale. Many of Rochester's local businesses, organizations, and schools have participated and thousands of people have lined the streets each year to enjoy this wnderful holiday event.
