1. Criswell Cemetery Marker
Inscription. In 1857, Nancy Landers Criswell (1777-1867) designated a portion of her property to serve as a community cemetery, with the intent that no one would ever be charged for burial here. The earliest grave, that of Rhoda Shackleford, dates to 1850 and predates the establishment of the cemetery. With more than 400 graves, the Criswell Cemetery includes veterans of the Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Also buried here is Mary Francis (Blythe) Criswell, a relative of President William Jefferson (Blythe) Clinton.
