1. Carroll Park at the Historic Pigtown Neighborhood Marker
Inscription.
For more than one hundred years Carroll Park has served the historic Washington Village/Pigtown neighborhood, whose rowhouses once provided lodging for workers employed at the B&O Railroad, streetcar maintenance barns across the street (now used for the Maryland Transit Administration's buses), and other industries in the area. Take a walk along Washington Boulevard and Scott Street to explore one of Baltimore's oldest and most diverse communities, or make use of the Fitness Trail and pathways in the park.

Directions for the Gwynns Falls Trail
• To the Inner Harbor or Middle Branch Park:
Use the marked bike lane on Bush Street through the Carroll-Camden Industrial Park past "Gaslight Square," a reminder of the era when gas was produced here to fuel the city's street lights.
• West to Carroll Park Golf Course and beyond:
Proceed through Carroll Park, with views of Mount Clare (the historic mansion of Charles Carroll, the Barrister), then beside Washington Boulevard past Montgomery Park (the sustainably renovated 1920s Montgomery Ward distribution center) to Trailhead 6.

[Captions:]
"The Horseshoe Players" mural, painted on the side of a rowhouse at the corner of Ward and Bayard streets, one of many works of public art in Pigtown.
