The free celebration at the former Republic Studios lot, CBS Studio Center, included appearances by Republic Picture's stars, screenings of Republic films, serials and trailers, live performances of swing and western music, entertainment by gun spinners, rope twirlers, trick horses, cowboy poets, and a diverse collection of memorabilia. In addition, a speakers forum with prominent industry experts and Republic celebrities discussed a range of topics from creating sci-fi special effects to tales of working at Republic Pictures. A special Republic Pictures stamp cancellation ceremony of the U.S. Postal Service's Cowboys of the Silver Screen postage stamps took place.

CBS Studio Center History:
Mack Sennett, a silent film producer and director, came to the San Fernando Valley and opened his new movie studio at this location in 1928. He previously operated a smaller studio on Glendale Boulevard in Echo Park, then called Edendale. Five years after creating the Studio City lot, Sennett was forced to file for bankruptcy and the studio lot was sold to Mascot Pictures. Mascot renamed the studio after itself. By 1935, another film company, Monogram Pictures, along with Mascot and Consolidated Film Corporation merged to form Republic

Pictures Corporation. The studio lot was renamed Republic Studios. The studio specialized in B-movies, including many Westerns starring Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and John Wayne, all of whom gained their first breaks with Republic. CBS Television purchased the lot from Republic in 1967 and the facility was renamed the CBS Studio Center, also called Radford Studio Center. CBS built new sound stages, office buildings, and technical facilities. Shows filmed include Gunsmoke, My Three Sons, Gilligan's Island, and The Wild Wild West. The 70-acre lot has 18 sound stages and 220,000 square feet of office space. Since 2007, the Studio Center has been the home of CBS's Los Angeles station KCBS-TV, along with sister station KCAL-TV, as they vacated Columbia Square to move into a newly built, digitally-enhanced office and studio facility. The CBS Studio City Broadcast Center also houses the Los Angeles bureau of CBS News. In 2021, CBS sold the facility to real estate investment companies as part of a corporate effort to focus on content. Radford Studio Center is set to get a $1-billion upgrade to expand its facilities and bring them further into the digital age. The upgrades will include modern soundstages, production and support offices, and historic preservation.
