1. C&O Kanawha Class Locomotive 2732 Marker
Inscription. C&O Railway named this class of locomotives "Kanawhas" after the Kanawha River. This locomotive and 39 others like it were designed to handle heavy freight and passenger loads. The Science Museum of Virginia's locomotive is the only one that still has its original tender. Coal was fed to the boiler by a screw conveyor, because manually, two firemen could not appease its appetite.
