1. Operation "Pitchfork" Marker
Inscription. On the morning of May 14th 1948, units of the Haganah and the Irgun Zvai Leumi began an operation to take over the positions held by the British, including the central "Russian Compound". The Haganah succeeded in gaining control of all of the British positions held in the central and southern Jerusalem. During the operation, which lasted five days the Irgun took over Sheikh Jarah, thus extended the Jewish perimeter as far as Mount Scopus.
