In order to accommodate the pilgrims, they built Notre Dame de France guesthouse and obtained the opening of New Gate to allow pilgrims a direct access to the Holy Sepulchre.
In 1887, the Comte de Piellat, the founder of Saint Louis French Hospital, gave up the land of Saint Peter in Gallicantu to the Assumptionists, who planted olive trees and a vineyard and kept chickens, pigs and cows to feed the Notre Dame pilgrims.

The excavations undertaken as soon as 1888 and led by Fr. Joseph Germer-Durand, allowed them to relocate Saint Peter's church, which had been built by Empress Eudokia (+460).
Fr. Etienne Boubet, architect of Notre Dame de France since 1890, of our Lady of the Spasm (the Catholic Armenian church of the fourth station of the Cross) in 1891 and of Our Lady of the Ark of the Covenant in Oyriat Yearim (1920-1924) built Saint Peter in Gallicantu church from 1924 to 1931. He launched the reinforced concrete engineering in the Holy Land.

Le Père Etienne Boubet,
architecte à partir de 1890, de Notre-Dame de France de Notre-Dame du Spasme en 1891 (église arménienne catholique de la IVè station du chemin de croix), et de Notre-Dame de l'Arche d'Alliance à Oyriat Yearim (1920- 1924), a construit, de 1924 à 1031, l'église Saint-Pierre en Gallicante. C'est lui qui a introduit en Terre Sainte le technique du béton armé.
