Inducted to New Jersey Hall of Fame: 2013

Born Arnold Raymond Cream, Walcott took the name of his idol, a welterweight champion from Barbados, before becoming a professional boxer at the age of 16. Determined to achieve his dream, Walcott won the heavyweight title on his fifth try at the age of 37 and held the record as the oldest heavyweight champion until 1994. Walcott retired from boxing in 1953 after a 23-year career but remained active as a referee and later as chairman of the NJ State Athletic Commission. After retiring, Walcott worked for the Camden County Corrections Department and became the first African American to serve as Sheriff of Camden County.
