Admiral Halsey commanded the Third Fleet from the deck of USS New Jersey during the battle of Leyte Gulf, the largest naval battle in history and the last time battleships fought each other. Admiral Halsey is famous for his more than a half century as a naval officer during which time he held several major commands in the Pacific during World War II. He was the last person to be promoted to the 5-star rank of Fleet Admiral of the Navy.
