Inscription. Rabbi Maimon ben Yosef was a student of Rabbi Yosef Halevi Ibn Magash and lived in the 12th century CE. Escaping anti-Semitic rioters, Rabbi Maimon took his family on a long and difficult road to safety from Cordoba in Spain to Morocco and from there to the Land of Israel, and finally to Egypt where they found peace and tranquility, and where he died.

"Beware of the temptations of the world and the pursuit of desires. Always remember that life is cut short by death, separating man from his desire, exiling him from his home and his place; as if he will not find peace until he leaves his home, and is separated from his loved ones, and all links untie, and he is left alone, leaving everything that was his behind. And he will then be held accountable for his sins, and punished accordingly."
