De Pradel was commandant of
Fort Chartres in the Illinois country in 1724
and of Fort Rosalie in Natchez 1731-1732.
In 1736 De Pradel and his wife
Alexandrine de la Chaise
purchased Monplaisir Plantation
on the west bank of the Mississippi river
and made it one of the colony's grandest houses.
The present building was erected 1964-1966,
using existing granite columns and cornices,
for the Morgan State Branch
of the Whitney National Bank,
Koch and Wilson, architects
in association with
Kessels, Diboll, Kessels Architects.
