Nipigon in Thunder Bay District, Ontario — Central Canada (North America)
The Nipigon Café
Located right on the old Trans Canada highway is the Nipigon Cafe, an outstanding example of classic art moderne and a fixture on the scene since the 1930s. Sandy and Lilly Kuorikoski, the original proprietors operated a garage at this location before going into the restaurant business. A tunnel linked the café to the house next door where the owners lived. With a public sauna and a taxi stand for neighbours, the café was a popular stop. The Kuorikoski family ran the business until 1972 when John and Georgina Stravopoulos took over the restaurant, carrying on the tradition of good company and good food.
