South Jordan in Salt Lake County, Utah — The American Mountains (Southwest)
Garside/McMullin House
Utah Historic Site
Aaron Garside supplemented his farm income by hauling ore at the nearby Bingham Copper Mine during the 1870s and 1880s. In the 1890s he moved into the rapidly expanding sheep industry, acquired 640 acres, and built this house. He sold the home to Albert Orlando McMullin and moved to Salt Lake City in 1907, after purchasing a profitable gravel business. Albert had worked in road grading and commodity freighting from Carbon County to the Uinta Basin before selling his farm and moving to the Salt Lake Valley. Following Albert's death in 1935, the home was sold to his son, Urban Bryner McMullin, who carried on with the farming business and became well known for his quickness in planting straight rows with his fine horses. From 1960 to 1966, the home was used as both a residence and the South Jordan City offices. In 1977, the property was willed to Urban's son, Dix Holt McMullin. Dix and his wife, Renae, completed the restoration of the home in 1994.
Erected 2000.
