Designed by Washington architect Harvey L. Page (1859-1934), the house was built between 1892 and 1894 for Sarah Adams Wilcox Whittemore (1836-1907). Chartered in 1922, the Woman's National Democratic Club purchased the Whittemore House in 1927.
