This corps formed the second line of battle and was deployed at 5 P.M., April 5, 1862, 800 Yards in rear of the first line; the 1st Division to the left of the Bark Road; the 2nd Division, except Gladden’s Brigade which was on Hardee’s right, to the right of the Bark Road. The Corps advanced at 7 A.M. April 6, but before becoming engaged the brigades were separated and sent to different parts of the field, destroying the organization of the Corps.

Gen. Bragg commanded the Confederate right center until 2:30 P.M. when, learning of Gen. Johnston’s death, he took command of the right, leaving Gen. Ruggles in command at right center. Gen. Withers, with his 2nd and 3rd Brigades, was engaged on the extreme right Sunday and Monday.
