This Brigade was engaged here from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. April 7, 1862. It then advanced to the front of Prentiss' camps where it bivouacked Monday night.

3. Smith's Brigade Line of Advance
Looking west on Hamburg-Purdy Road toward Barnes Field. Smith's Brigade moved forward from around mid-day on April 7 through Davis' Wheatfield (to the right), toward Barnes Field. In the initial advance, the brigade probably seized portions of the Washington Artillery, but was forced to give up those guns. The Brigade reported capturing another group of Confederate guns in a follow up advance.
