From the National Register Nomination:
The Martin County Courthouse, built in 1885, is an excellent example of the eclectic and romantic nature of architecture in the nineteenth century. Italianate, Medieval, and late Victorian elements are combined in an unexpected manner to produce a castle-like building which is unique among North Carolina's courthouses.
