Jeanne (McCoy) Purnhagen Schaal was a resident of Upper Arlington for 33 years. She enjoyed a successful business career, working at companies that included Ohio Bell, Battelle, Clyde Williams & Co., and the national board of YMCA.

Jeanne dedicated much of her time to community service. She was an active member and the first female president of the Kiwanis Club of Northwest Columbus, and served on various community entities, including the board of the Upper Arlington area Chamber of Commerce and the Upper Arlington commission on aging. She also was an active member of Trinity Methodist Church.

Her contributions to and participation in various regional organizations was extensive. Jeanne was the founding director and executive director of the Ohio Business Week Foundation that worked to mentor high school students. She served as president of the American Business Women's Association (Rose Capital chapter,) and was named their woman of the year in 1961. She was a member of the education board of the League of Women Voters, was active in the Zonta Club of Columbus, the Pro Musica sustaining board, the Central Ohio division of Project Hope and the National Society of fundraising Executives, to name a few.
