More about this marker. This sign marks the path that leads to the Henry County Poor Farm Cemetery which is the burial site of more than 50 of the Poor Farm residents as surveyed by Ball State University in April of 2022.
Regarding Henry County Poor Farm Cemetery.. The Henry County Poor Farm sat on a hill on County Road 100 N., in what is now Henry County Memorial Park. Just north of the home, high on a hill is the location of the Poor Farm burial ground. Its whereabouts were unknown for several decades until the Citizens to Preserve Memorial Park obtained a grant from the Efroymson Family Fund and contracted Ball State University's Archaeology Department to conduct a GPR study which found 50 likely inhumations with 17 of those being nearly intact.
