Bernard Cornelia Johannes Loder (1849-1935)

Na zijn studie Rechten in Amsterdam en zijn promotie in Leiden vestigde Bernard Loder zich als advocaat in Rotterdam. Hij was van 1908 tot 1921 raadsheer van de Hoge Raad, de hoogste rechtsprekende instantie, en werd in 1920 lid van de Neder- landse afvaardiging bij de eerste vergadering van de Volkenbond. Deze samenwerking tussen landen moest een einde aan alle oorlogen maken. Loder had ook een grote rol bij de oprichting van het Permanente Hof van Internationale Justitie. Dit Hof waarvan hij de eerste president werd, was na de Eerste Wereldoorlog opgericht en sprak recht in juridische geschillen tussen staten. Het wordt beschouwd als de voorloper van het latere Internationaal Gerechtshof. Loder, die internationaal een goede reputatie genoot vanwege zijn integriteit, overleed in 1935 op 86-jarige leeftijd.

a member of the Dutch delegation to the first meeting of the League of Nations. This cooperation between countries was supposed to put an end to all wars. Loder was also instrumental in establishing the Permanent Court of International Justice. This Court, of which he became the first president, was established after World War I and adjudicated on legal disputes between states. It is considered the forerunner of the later International Court of Justice. Loder, who enjoyed an international reputation for his integrity, died in 1935 at the age of 86.
