Wisner Carriage Barn
Judge Charles H. Wisner, a prominent Flint citizen and tinkerer, built this Italianate carriage barn in 1878 to house a few horses and carriages at his residence on the corner of East Court and Lapeer Streets in Flint.
Wisner, the son of Moses Wisner, who served as the twelfth governor of Michigan, built the first automobile ever constructed in Flint — the "Buzz Wagon." Although Wisner made three different models, he was unsuccessful in getting any othe them manufactured.
Typical of carriage barns of the era, this building also is important in Judge Wisner's association with Flint's development as a vehicle city.
This barn was saved from the path of Interstate 475 construction across Flint and moved to Crossroads Village in 1970.
Erected by Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission.
