1933 Swimming Pool & Bathhouse
Dunbar Cave
The Dunbar Cave and Idaho Springs Corporation was one of many commercial ventures to operate at the cave and mineral springs. They purchased the resort in 1932 and then completed several upgrades. They modernized the Idaho Springs Hotel, doubled the size of the lake, and built most of the concrete and stone structures at the cave entrance. A swimming pool and bathhouse was constructed replacing an earlier swimming area in the lake. The pool served the community for almost 40 years before closing in the early 1970's. Lack of attendance and aging mechanical systems forced it to close. The days of resorts may be over, but the bathhouse still stands as an unique example of architecture and currently serves as the Dunbar Cave State Park Visitor Center.
