Tucunar
El tucunar es oriundo del Amazonas. En 1967, fue introducido a Puerto Rico, cortesía del Gobierno Colombiano, para fomentar la pesca deportiva en nuestros embalses. Es robusto, agresivo y más voraz que la lobina. Es un excelente pez deportivo. Se captura en orillas llanas, durante horas de sol. En algunas ocasiones, pican durante todo el día. Su dieta la comonen camarones, insectos, sardina y otros peces.

Chopa
Se alimenta de hierbas y pequeños caracoles. Además, suele aprovechar los frutos que abunden en los enbalses, como pomarrosas, guineos, guayabas y chinas. En general, habita en aguas llanas con vegetación, árboles o troncos sumergidos. Generalmente, es capturada por pescadores de orilla. Les sirve de alimento a especies de mayor valor deportivo, como la lobina.

Tucunar
The tucunar is native to the Amazon. In 1967, it was introduced to Puerto Rico, courtesy of the Colombian government, to promote sport fishing in our reservoirs. It is robust, aggressive and more voracious than the bass. It is an excellent sport fish.

It is captured on flat banks, during daylight hours. Sometimes they itch throughout the day. Their diet consists of shrimp, insects, sardines and other fish.

Chopa
It feeds on grasses and small snails. Additionally, it usually takes advantage of fruit that abounds in the reservoirs, such as rose apples, bananas, guavas and Chinese fruit. In general, it lives in flat water with vegetation, trees or submerged logs. Generally, it is caught by shore fishermen. It serves as food for species that are used for sportfishing, particularly bass.
