Inscription. From 1961 to 1981, Professor of Chemistry Willis H. Flygare developed powerful new methods to measure the properties of molecules, culminating in the invention of the Fourier Transform Microwave Spectrometer. This apparatus and its descendants, now used in laboratories around the world, have improved our understanding of molecular structure and greatly enabled studies of the chemistry of interstellar space.
