1. El Piragüero Alegre de Cayey Marker
Recordamos como una figura representiva de Cayey al "Piragüero Alegre", don Jesús Cruz Avilés, quien nació el 25 de diciembre de 1929 y murió a los 83 años. Dedicó 47 años de su vida a ese oficio en la plaza de recreo Ramón Frade León. Inicialmente por el precio de 1¢, vendía un vaso de cristal repleto del raspado de hielo que bañaba en jarabe de frutas, al que llamamos piragua, pero su interés primordial estaba puesto en complacer a sus clientes. Seguiremos su ejemplo para conservar esta linda tradición pueblerina.
We remember our beloved "Happy Piragüero" of Cayey, Mr. Jesús Cruz Avilés, who was born on December 25, 1929 and lived for 83 years. He worked in Plaza Rámon Frade León for 47 years. For a penny, he sold shaved ice with fruit flavors ("piragua"), but his real love was pleasing his customers. Following his example, we will preserve this beloved village tradition.
