[English translation:]
The Flambayón is one of the most beautiful trees we have. Although it is native to Madagascar, today it is cultivated throughout the Island of Puerto Rico. When the red Flamboyán blooms, it seems to shed its blood on our soil as a sign of struggle, ready to bleed to fertilize our land. The Flamboyán tree and its flower are distinctive of Peñuelas, due to their beauty and majesty. The square and the main street of our town originally had two promenades lined with beautiful and leafy Flamboyanes.

In July 1934, U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, in his visit to Puerto Rico included the town of Peñuelas in his tour. Nature, as a contribution to the choreography of such an important visit, with the fall of the petals of the Flamboyán flowers formed a red carpet, inspired words of admiration from President Roosevelt. After this experience, Peñuelas is known as the "Valley of the Flamboyanes".

The Municipal Government of Peñuelos organizes the Flamboyán Festival every second weekend of July.
