In 2020, archaeologists from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee worked at investigating and preserving the here along the entire length of Lakeshore discovery along this roadway gave the community further evidence of the past cultures who have once called this area home. Items dating to several hundred years BC were unearthed, catalogued, and preserved. Our community's history is ancient, and although we ourselves live in a very small portion of the on-going story of this place, we are reminded that many people have come before us and many will follow. what will be our legacy? Will we remember to cherish this place and the history it holds? Will we preserve our resources, including our beautiful Lake Winnebago, so that future generations can also enjoy and benefit from this unique place?

Archaeologists have identified remnants of past houses along Lakeshore Avenue and have catalogued over 80,000 artifacts found along this route. The material culture speaks to a wide variety of household activities including copper fish hooks and awls, decorative shell combs, clay cooking pots, and stone tools.

Captions: Pots were tools for cooking, serving, and storing food, and pottery was also an avenue of artistic expression.
