Campos de Exterminio
En 1942, los nazis establecieron varios campos de exterminio con cámaras de gas permanentes. Con el arribo de cada tren sobrevenía la selección en la platforma. Los hombres mayores, mujeres y niños eran enviados directamente a las cámeras de gas mientras que los más jóvenes a campos de trabajo forzado. Despojados de sus ropas y pertenencias, eran conucidos y amontonados en las cámeras de gas, donde morían asfixiados por el gas cianuro. Los cadáveres eran removidos dejando la cámara libre para una nueva tanda de ejecuciones; los cuerpos eran arrojados a grandes fosas comunes. La operación completa tomaba sólo unas pocas horas, lo que les permitía procesar varios arribos en un mismo día. En 1943, comenzó la cremación de cuerpos a fin de encubrir cualquier rastro de los asesinatos cometidos.

the younger or physically fit were sent to labor camps. Jews were stripped of their clothing and crowded into the gas chambers where they died of asphyxiation from cyanide poison. The corpses were removed, leaving the chamber empty for the next round of executions. The bodies were thrown into large pits. The entire processing of the train transports took only a few hours, resulting in thousands of deaths daily. In 1943, the cremation of bodies began in order to cover up the traces of the murders committed.
