Irena Sendler desafió a los nazis y salvó a dos mil quinientos niños judíos. Como trabajadora social, tenía acceso al gueto. Sacaba de contrabando a los niños del Gueto de Varsovia y les buscaba familias no judías que los adoptaran. Anotaba en código el nombre original de los niños y sus nuevas identidades temporeras Escondía los expedientes en jarras de cristal, las cuales enterraba debajo de un manzano, con la esperanza de algún día poder localizar a los niños e informarles de su pasado. En el 2008 Irena Sendler fue nominada para el premio Nobel de la Paz.
