When the Nazis announced that they would relocate the Jews from the town, Kira and Dmitry Belkova asked their parents' permission to hide their friend Masha Litovsky and her sister Fira. That night, the entire Jewish population of the town, more than six thousand men, women and children, were taken to the woods and murdered. The two sisters were hidden in the cellar at great risk to the family. Thanks to their friends, they survived the war.
