Inscription. In 1850 Charles Hosmer Morse was the office boy for E. & T. Fairbanks & Co. of St. Johnsbury, Vermont. His salary of $50 a year was not excessive but that was before the income tax. By 1871, due to his integrity and skill as a manager, he was made Chief Executive Officer of what had become Fairbanks, Morse & Co. Under his leadership, the Chicago firm produced windmills, scales, diesel engines, and other industrial machines which served this country well in it development of the west.

The instrument deeding this park to the city includes the following: "This conveyance being made for the purpose of conveying said lands to the town of Winter Park for the purpose of parks, and it being expressly understood that the use of any said lands for any other purpose will cause the same to revert to the party of the first part (C.H. Morse) his heirs or assigns."

Because of this thoughtful provision and the vigilance of his heirs, this park still has its trees, grass, and flowers.
