1. Evansville Cotton Mill Marker
Inscription. Several buildings (1874) remain of Evansville Cotton Manufacturing Co., 1867-circa 1900. It was a major employer on lower Ohio River. Most workers were women. Accessibility of raw cotton via river, coal from local mines, and railroad transportation attracted mill. Infant food products manufactured here since 1916.

Regarding Evansville Cotton Mill. Mead Johnson Nutrition Co. bought the 44-acre site in 1915 and refurbished it to begin producing baby food products on March 1, 1916. The facility now manufactures Enfamil formula, among other products. The site has been owned by British consumer goods conglomerate Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC since June 2017, when it acquired Mead Johnson.

During World War II the Evansville Shipyard was based on a portion of this property. The shipyard produced 167 LSTs (Landing Ship, Tank) and some 34 other marine vessels between 1942 and 1945.
