1. First Settlers of Southbury Marker
Inscription.
The stone marker in the enclosure represents thesite of the encampment of the first 15 settlers and their families from Stratford in the area known as Pomperaug in the spring of 1673. It was made a town and called Woodbury. The south section was named Southbury in May 1781, and incorporated as a town in May 1787.
