After a century of service, the Grand Banks fishing schooner Roseway is here at Mystic Seaport Museum for a major preservation project in the Henry B. du Pont Preservation Shipyard.

Roseway was built in Essex, Massachusetts in the 1920s, just like the L.A. Dunton, another fishing schooner also undergoing restoration in the Shipyard. Roseway was commissioned by Harold Hathaway to compete in the international fishermen's races and to fish, primarily for swordfish.

Following its career as a fishing schooner, Roseway joined the Boston Pilot Association fleet, and during World War II it was commissioned as a U.S. Coast Guard Reserve vessel. And the war, it resumed its career as a pilot vessel until 1973, making it the last active pilot schooner in the country. Once decommissioned, it worked as a Maine Coast windjammer and gained National Historic Landmark status in 1997.

In 2002, Roseway became the flagship vessel of World Ocean School. World Ocean School is a nonprofit organization that provides students of all backgrounds with opportunities to learn to care for themselves, their crew, and their ship, becoming vessels of change in the
