Inscription.  
Gerrit Scheeuwe, timmerman, koopt op 1 februari 1882 zes stukken bouwterrein van de heer Franz Wilhelm Schröder. Volgens de overlevering bedacht Gerrit deze straatnaam maar hiervoor bestaat geen enkel bewijs. Ook de verwijzing naar prins Willem Frederik Karel, Prins van Oranje Nassau, zoals vermeld in het boek 'Amsterdamsche Straatnamen' van Margaretha van Gelder is niet juist; De straat was niet belangrijk genoeg voor deze herkomst. Totdat de juiste oorsprong van deze straatnaam bekend zal worden op deze plek even een gezicht in de vorm van een historische foto.

Gerrit Scheeuwe, a carpenter, bought six lots for development on February 1, 1882 from Mr. Franz Wilhelm Schröder. According to tradition, Gerrit came up with this street name but there is no evidence for this. Also the reference to Prince Willem Frederik Karel, Prince of Orange-Nassau, as mentioned in the book 'Amsterdamsche Straatnamen' (“Amsterdam Street Names”) by Margaretha van Gelder is not correct; the street was not important enough for this provenance.
