From 1884 to 1886 printed and edited the forerunner of the workers paper «Vort Arbeide» (“Our Work”) here in back of the building.

1. Knudsen, Christian Holterman (The Nobel Prize). Holtermann Knudsen was for a time a member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
Excerpt: Christian Holterman Knudsen became chairman of the ‘Typographers’ Union in 1876. In 1883 he became chairman of Fagforeningernes Centralkomite (the Central Committee of Trade Unions).

From the early 1880s Knudsen was a leading proponent of socialism in Norway. He played an important role when the Norwegian Labour Party (Det Norske Arbeiderparti) was founded in 1887 and served as the party’s chairman in 1889-1902 and 1912-1918. He resigned from the leadership when the party congress adopted a revolutionary program

2. Christian Holtermann Knudsen (Wikipedia).
On his workers newspaper: In 1884 Knudsen established the newspaper Vort Arbeide ('Our Work'), on behalf of the central committee. The first issue was released on 10 May 1884, and led to Knudsen being fired from Almuevennen. He also had to establish his own printing press since none of the existing printing presses wanted to be affiliated with a labourer's newspaper. The fledgling project was marred by economic problems, and the burden of both writing, editing and printing lay chiefly on Knudsen. In 1885 he founded the association Socialdemokratisk Forening, which formally took over the newspaper. The name was changed from Vort Arbeide to Social-Demokraten ('The Social Democrat') in 1886…
