Settlers Monument. . This monument is dedicated to the early settlers of Berne, Indiana, eighty-two devout Mennonite immigrants who came from the Bernese Jura of Switzerland. The first generations cleared the land and drained the swamps, building a future for those of us who reside here today. This plaza marks the location of their first place of worship as well as their first cemetery, later called the Muensterberg Cemetery.
