Inscription. This tablet marks the military grant of land 2448 acres made by King George II of England in the year 1772 to George Washington for his services in the French and Indian War. General Washington bequeathed 1425 acres of this tract to his niece Ann Washington Ashton. One of her grand daughters, Henrietta S. Fitzhugh and her husband Henry Fitzhugh founded the town of Ravenswood in 1837 on a part of this land, and established Grace Episcopal Church in 1851.
